The Project Tutorials can't work

May 10, 2010 at 8:04 AM

I follow the msdn tutorial http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512961.aspx, but I can't find some elements in the xml of the simpleproject .

For example "<RegisterWithCodebase>true</RegisterWithCodebase>"
                   "<ProjectBasePath>C:\MyLocalFolder\Project</ProjectBasePath>"

How large the Microsoft Company is!

But how stupid the thing above is!

What a pity!

Dear JL,
You can file bugs at https://connect.microsoft.com/ for specific issues, and your suggestions for walktroughs at MSDN and Visual Studio.

For this specific tutorial, it expects the user to add this snippet, not modify it.
> In the XML editor, add the following ProjectBasePath element after the RegisterWithCodebase element. Do not break the line that contains the ProjectBasePath element.
true
<RegisterWithCodebase>true</RegisterWithCodebase>
<ProjectBasePath>C:\MyLocalFolder\Project</ProjectBasePath>

So it is fine that you cannot find the element.

Selma

You can't find them because you're supposed to add them to your project file e.g.

  <PropertyGroup>
    <RegisterOutputPackage>true</RegisterOutputPackage>
    <RegisterWithCodebase>true</RegisterWithCodebase>
    <ProjectBasePath>..\..\MPF\Dev10\Src\CSharp</ProjectBasePath>
  </PropertyGroup>
the instruction was pretty clear:
"In the XML editor, add the following ProjectBasePath element after the RegisterWithCodebase element. Do not break the line that contains the ProjectBasePath element."

First,Thank you for your answer

I think that the two elements should be Intelligent ,

otherwise developers would be illusory

Although his comment is non-constructive, jl99000 is correct.

After I follow the tutorial (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512961.aspx) I get the following error: 'The name 'UIThread' does not exist in the current context'.  I'm using the latest version (Visual Studio 2010 - Post Beta 2 Release, Jan 26 2010, Beta).

However, adding these lines to the 'ProjectBase.files' file fixed the problem for me...

<Compile Include="$(ProjectBasePath)\UIThread.cs">
  <Link>ProjectBase\UIThread.cs</Link>
  <Visible>true</Visible>
</Compile>

Sadly the Downloads section contains only MPF release for VS 2010 Beta although there is updated source code in Subversion that works with VS 2010 RTM (r50395).
